Ranfurly Castle Golf Club

Location and Route Planning

In their Words…….

Ranfurly Castle celebrated it’s 125th Anniversary in 2014, making it the oldest Golf Club in Renfrewshire. The course is widely recognised as one of the finest “Classic” courses and is acknowledged as one of the best moorland courses in Scotland. Our course was originally laid out over a century ago on naturally well draining land.

The Course was designed by Andrew Kirkaldy and Willie Auchterlonie and opened in 1905 with a reconstruction in 1930 with some influence from the legendary James Braid.

It has been said that the design was motivated by St Andrews Old Course with the same shape and dimension giving a layout of nine out and nine back. The course is subtle, plays strategic, is often credited with having the features of Gleneagles, has exceptionally good quality greens and last, but not least, spectacular views across the surrounding valleys! We have a medal par of 70 and a 71 SSS rating over 6261 yds.

It is set in the hills above Bridge of Weir where we enjoy magnificent views over the Renfrewshire countryside, the Clyde valley and north to Ben Lomond and the Scottish mountains, located 7 miles south west of Glasgow Airport.

The course has been chosen for many prestigious golf tournaments including the PGA Assistants’ Match Play Championship, the Scottish Girls’ Championship and last year the Scottish Area Team Championships.

First visit. The quality starts at the entrance with a scenic drive down to the clubhouse. We had a light lunch where... everything was of the highest standard. Practise facilities are as good as I have seen. The course is breathtaking and the very high standards continue with paths, fairways and greens all beautifully maintained. The layout is challenging and one should avoid the back tees unless you are in top form! A great experience.read more
